May. 22nd, 2014 08:23 pmTitle: The Hunt for Blue Unity
Author:
zubeneschamali
Rating: PG-13
Genre: J2 AU
Film: The Hunt for Red October
Word count: 21,170
Warnings: secondary character death
Summary: The most advanced ship in the Terran Space Force has vanished, potentially posing a major threat to the people of Mars. Analyst Jared Padalecki of the Martian Intelligence Service is convinced that the disappearance is deliberate—not because the highly-decorated Captain Jensen Ackles is out to start a war, but because he wants to defect to Mars. But even if Jared can convince his superiors he's right, and then convince Ackles that he wants to help, the battle might not be over yet…
A/N: I wasn't going to do
spn_cinema this year. But then
cassiopeia7 said she reeeeeally wanted a J2 "Hunt for Red October", and
killabeez said, "What if it was in space?" and I said, "Damn it," and here we are. It's also a bit of an homage to Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy, one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time and well worth the read. Thanks to
dugindeep for her encouragement and support on finishing this, and for providing an excellent beta job.
