Hello all you lovely lil pretties! Claims Day is almost here! This Saturday, August 11, claims will open at 10am CST. For those who need a refresher, or are totally new to our challenge, see the info below the cut to prepare you for claims.

If you have questions, please view our FAQs. If you are still unsure, reply to this post or email the mod account: spncinema [dot] mod [at] gmail [dot] com.

Please also be patient with us modly mods as we have tried to plan this claiming to the best of our availability, yet something always comes up. We promise that claims made will be honored in the order they are made based on each comment's timestamp on the post. If there are issues with spam comments, we will manage them as they arise.

We're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack ...

Heya folks ... We're back for Round 9 and as excited as ever for another year of exciting fanworks based on our favorite movies!

First off, we'd like to give a lovely send off to a magnificent friend. fiercelynormal was a diligent and beautiful partner these last few years and is now stepping down from moderating the challenge. In her place, we present dephigravity, who has been a regular participant in the challenge and continues to be fully dedicated to the beauty of our SPN peoples and challenges. Welcome aboard, my friend!

Now ... onto the 9th season of spn_cinema! NINE NINE! (okay, wrong show)

For those who are new to the community (or just like a refresher) ...

What is spn_cinema?
An SPN/RPF fanwork challenge, where films serve as the basis for new fanworks.

What fanworks are allowed?
Fanworks include newly created fics, art, and audio. Your fanwork(s) can be a work in progress you pick up for this challenge so long as they have not been posted elsewhere - you will be posting your piece(s) for the first time on your scheduled posting date. For the purposes of this challenge, art refers to all illustrated files, manips, graphics, videos, etc., and audio refers to both podfic and fanmixes. In general, the term fanworks is used to cover the spectrum of all mediums allowed in this challenge.

Who can participate
Any author, artist, podficcer or fanmixer can sign up. Don't have an LJ? No problem! We will be offering new options for signing up and posting your work to include folks all across Livejournal, AO3, tumblr, etc.

Claiming will open Saturday, August 11 at 10am CST ... in the meantime, your only job is to start thinking up what movie you want to work with this season! (for more information regarding claiming, check out our Round 9 claiming info post.

Round 9 Betas!

If you want to be a part of the challenge, but aren't a creator (or don't have time to run your own film), consider being a beta reader/viewer!

For those who are unsure what the role of a beta is ... from wikipedia:
An alpha reader or beta reader (also spelled alphareader/betareader, or shortened to alpha/beta) is a non-professional reader who reads a written work, generally fiction, with the intent of looking over the material to find and improve elements such as grammar and spelling, as well as suggestions to improve the story, its characters, or its setting. Beta reading is typically done before the story is released for public consumption. Beta readers are not explicitly proofreaders or editors, but can serve in that context. Elements highlighted by beta readers encompass things such as plot holes, problems with continuity, characterisation or believability; the beta reader might also assist the author with fact-checking.

Betas are common to whip a fanart into shape and for the creator to get an objective opinion on their pieces prior to submitting/posting. A beta read/viewing is not required for the draft submission, but is highly recommended prior to posting your works to the community on your scheduled posting day.
